KRISTIN SHIELDS
BIOGRAPHY
My art focuses on compositions and the ability to emphasize a point in a given space through the use of design and photography. Both photography and design allow me to capture the world around me and express that moment into one frame. I grew up with an artist mother, and after years of sitting and watching her I fell in love with the creative process. Art gave me a space to be unique and express my voice for others to see. The first time I stepped inside a dark room I had no idea how much it would impact my career and the way I view the world. I began designing layouts and using what I had learned from framing photographs and later realized that design was what I am most passionate about. Design and photography are vitally important to each other because of their ability to create compositions, whether that be on a sheet of paper or digitally. My designs tend to break the stereotypical rules of design. I take the medium and manipulate it to surprise my audience, whether that be layering negatives in the dark room or implementing hand drawn lettering into my designs. Art gives me the space to delve deeper into the world around me and show my audience the view through my lens.
